Photograph parcel, evaluate algorithmically and declare automatically
As part of an innovation programme of the Swiss Post, Polygon developed a proof-of-concept that positively answered the following question: Can parcel customs clearance be automated using state-of-the-art Big Data, computer vision and OCR applications? Polygon developed a software pipeline that evaluates the tabular structures of the labels on parcels. The unstandardised labels were interpreted with OCR and semantically analysed in order to correctly evaluate all relevant data and subsequently compare them with a complex rule tree, which is used to automatically decide which customs rules apply to the package.
